Who will follow in the footsteps of Wicky Ned in the 2025 Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat?

It was a family affair at Newcastle Stadium last year as Ashington-based Jimmy Fenwick scooped the Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat for a second year running following the victory of Brookside Richie in 2023

Supported by wife Mel and daughters Hannah and Lauren, Jimmy watched on as kennel star Wicky Ned won the £12,500 grand final from runner-up Slingshot Sam and third-placed Romeo Crossfire. Despite missing the break, the son of Ballycowen Lucy paced up well to the first bend to lead and win by two-and-three-quarter lengths.

Wicky Ned’s success wasn’t the only home victory on the night as Tom Heilbron’s Untold Ruble landed the Arena Racing Company Angel of the North.

After producing the fastest sectional of the night, Heilbron’s two-year-old pulled clear of her rivals to win the £7,500 prize by three-and-one-quarter lengths with Leighas Dream and Coppice Ella in second and third respectively.

Newcastle General Manager Ian Walton is hoping for a good entry, especially with all the action now being shown live on the popular Gone To The Dogs Live! show

"We are hoping to promote the Time Nutrition Northern Flat Category One competition worth £12,500 to the winner, and the Arena Racing Company Angel of the North Category Two competition worth £7,500 with both of the finals now being shown live on GTTD".

“We expect a decent entry once again and would certainly welcome entries from southern-based trainers. Having Irish-based trainers come and win both the Arc Northern Puppy Derby at Newcastle and Arc Puppy Trophy at Sunderland this year shows the locals can be beaten here!”

"Following on from the success of Robert Gleeson and Droopys Deploy in the ARC Northern Puppy Derby earlier this year, it has shown that if you take your chance you can win it".

"We have trial spaces available this week and we are running multiple competitions to run alongside the two main competitions on the semi-finals night, Puppy Standard, Bitches Standard and Standard (for greyhounds which were eliminated in the first round"

"We are holding a finals night of Open Races with enhanced prize money. Winners will all receive a minimum of £500 and others £100, and we are also putting on a Marathon 895m, where we are offering £895 to the winner of the race and £100 others"

"It will be a cracking nights racing and the winner of this competition won Greyhound of the year (Wicky Ned) last year. This competition has a huge tradition and is well worth a place on any greyhounds C.V"
