Staying star Taylor retires

Ballymac Taylor has been retired and will head to Australia for breeding.

The Mark Wallis-trained bitch enjoyed an excellent career and mixed with the best company over both six and eight bends throughout.

Owned by the MWD Partnership, she enjoyed a brilliant 2024 campaign that saw her reach the final of several big competitions.

After starting the year by finishing second in the ARC Cesarewitch, she was third in the PGR Golden Jacket in February and filled the runner-up spot in the TV Trophy the following month.

She returned to Crayford to make the Kent St Leger final in May before landing the biggest success of her career when winning the Dorando Marathon at Towcester on Derby final night by a stunning seven lengths.

As well as making the Coral Regency final later that summer, she returned to Towcester to make the TV Trophy decider again in March this year.

The 2021 daughter of Ballymac Anton and Ballymac Merkle signed off her career with a victory over 925m at Romford in an invitational race on Saturday 21st June.

Mike Davis, of the MWD Partnership, said: “We’ve done a deal with George Daly in Australia to breed Ballymac Taylor and for her to go over there.

“The deal was done this week and she’s going to be going through quarantine, so she’ll be in Australia as soon as we can get her over there.

“George will handle all the breeding and the deal enables us to keep an interest in her pups in Australia.”

15-time Trainer of the Year, Mark Wallis added: “We have had some great marathon runners over the years, like Aayamza Royale, Star Of Dromin, Aayamza Breeze and, obviously, currently Mongys Wild, and Ballymac Taylor is up there, despite the big competitions eluding her.

“She broke track records at Oxford and Towcester, won the Dorando in 2024 and was crowned marathon performer of 2024 at the GBGB Awards earlier in the year.

“She is the sister to multiple Category One-winner Garfiney Blaze, and desperately needed extended marathons which have been hard to find lately, so this breeding opportunity has come at the right time and we look forward to seeing her pups in Australia.”
