Entries close at midday tomorrow for the Category One Pall Mall at Oxford.
£10,000 is up for grabs as the four-bend competition takes centre stage at Oxford in the coming weeks.
Aero Sacundai from the Richie Taberner kennel took the title home last year when the February 22 son of Ballymac Cashout made all and recorded 26.52, beating Long Fellow who finished second.
Previous notable winners include Mile Bush Pride back in 1959, who also won the English, Scottish and Welsh Greyhound Derbies. Other prominent winners include English Greyhound Derby champions Rishton Mac (1954), Pigalle Wonder (1958) and Tico in 1986. In 2011, Brittons Empire, trained by Chris Allsopp, won the £8,000 Betfair Pall Mall, upsetting the fancied Ballymac Ace in a winning time of 26.91.
Oxford Stadium is located in Sandy Lane, Cowley and opened in 1939 and has been a significant venue for greyhound and speedway racing. The Pall Mall competition was run at Harringay Stadium from 1935 until 1987 and was originally regarded as the Winter Derby. The event moved to Oxford in 1988. The Category One event was then based at Oxford until the track closed in 2012. Held in March each year, it was often considered a good guide for the upcoming English Greyhound Derby.
The Pall Mall has attracted various sponsors over the years, including Tetley Bitter, William Hill, Stan James and Betfair.
The 2025 competition will be sponsored by BetGoodwin.
