Coral Coronation Cup Romford – Ante Post
All eyes on Romford on Friday evening as the London Road venue hosts the first round of the £10,000 Coral Coronation Cup. The prestigious event is one of the highlights of the racing calendar, and it promises to be a cracker with the Ante Post market hotting up!
Get on down to the London Road venue this Friday for some high-speed action as some of the country’s top six-bend performers clash in what’s sure to be an electric atmosphere. Tickets and restaurant packages are available via the Romford Greyhound Stadium website. General admission tickets can be purchased from just £7 with Party Packs at £14. That’s a meal, drink and racecard – perfect for a fun night at the dogs!
The Coronation Cup over the six-bend 575-metre distance is a unique blend of speed, stamina and sheer grit. Held annually at Romford, this competition always produces some amazing races with four-bend and six-bend performers clashing. The competition was inaugurated in 1981 at Southend Stadium before moving to Romford in 1985. In recent years, favourites on finals night have gone well, especially those from the Mark Wallis kennel. Last year New Destiny landed the top prize, winning the final at 5/6f in 34.53. The year previous, in 2023 Antigua Sugar won in 34.80 at evens. The Jason Gornall-trained Henlow raider Baby Bullet won the 2022 Coronation Cup at 2/1.
Moving onto the 2025 competition and New Destiny is back! Can she retain her crown?
Six heats take place on Friday evening with qualification the name of the game.
The first heat takes place at 7.11, and it looks like a cracker with Untold Paanga in T2 taking on Gary The Arb who lines up from T3.
At 7.27 on Friday evening all eyes will be on defending champion New Destiny when the Mark Wallis-trained flying machine lines up from T4. She will be very short for the heat, snap up the 5/2 on offer for outright honours if you fancy her to take this competition again.
An interesting runner in heat three is Avongate Venus from T5. The Doncaster raider has some flying Towcester form, including a quick away-made-all win last time out in 28.78 at the Northamptonshire venue. If she brings her trapping boots and stays the trip, she could go all the way in the Coronation Cup and reward those that took the 10/1 with Unibet.
Heat four at 8.01 will see Bet365 Oxford Hunt Cup winner Hogans Hawk run from T1. On Romford debut a couple of weeks back, Hogan missed the break and finished third, staying on well. Next time out in a classy race the September 22 daughter of Droopys Sydney trapped well, turned with the pace and hit the front at the fifth bend winning in 35.17. She looks the type to go deep in the competition.
Heat five at 8.19 looks ultra-competitive. Will Fabulous Sonique ping out and make all from T3? Can Raidcal Scoby (T4) get a clear run and show that finishing power like he did at Towcester on Saturday evening? Doncaster raider Keefill Goose could lead round from T5, will he stay this 575 metre trip? This is a cracker and one full of betting opportunities.
The sixth and final heat of the 2025 Coral Coronation Cup at 8.36 is another interesting one with Teddie (T2) Cree Bono (T3) Droopys Prefect (T5) and Brigadir Brindle (T6) all in with leading chances of taking the race and booking their place in the next round of the competition.
