Brace yourself for the 2025 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby, a turbo-charged, adrenaline-pumping extravaganza that’s set to unfold at the Dublin venue Shelbourne Park throughout August and September. This promises to be a thrilling spectacle with the best greyhounds on the planet lining up looking to land the €125,000 top prize.

The six-week showdown culminating in September will draw huge crowds from across the racing world. All eyes will be on Shelbourne Park which has recently undergone a facelift with a huge €5 million refurbishment taking place at the stadium. The venue has since gained two honours at the 2025 Irish Construction Excellence Awards.

BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby key dates:

Trap Draw (1st Round Heats): Monday, 18th August at 12pm, Oaks Suite, Shelbourne Park

First Round Heats: Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd August

Second Round Heats: Friday 29th & Saturday 30th August

Third Round Heats: Saturday 6th September

Quarter-Finals: Saturday 13th September

Semi-Finals: Saturday 20th September

Final:  Saturday 27th September

The competition's rich legacy dates back to 1928. Iconic winners include Spanish Battleship who famously won three consecutive titles during the 1950s. The state-of-the-art Shelbourne Park venue has been the permanent home since 1970, cementing its status alongside the English Greyhound Derby as the pinnacle of the sport.

The 2025 renewal will be no different with the likes of defending champion Bockos Diamond, last year’s runner-up Cheap Sandwiches, 2024 English Greyhound Derby champion De Lahdedah plus new kid on the block, Sole Mio all expected to line up in a bid to take home the €125,000 top prize.

Last year’s champion Bockos Diamond will return looking to dominate again. During the 2024 Irish Derby Bockos Diamond showed huge pace into the corner and went unbeaten throughout the competition. The Graham Holland-trained runner recently finished second in the Star Sports / TRC English Greyhound Derby final but will be looking to go one better in the Irish equivalent.

Outright betting is available with all major bookmakers. Sponsors BoyleSports go 9/2 about defending champion Bockos Diamond. 2024 runner-up Cheap Sandwiches is next in at 12/1 with last year’s third-placed Callaway Knegare also available at 12’s.

At fancy prices, Sole Mio could appeal at 33’s with the sponsors BoyleSports. The June 23 son of Coolavanny Hoffa ran a cracker in the English Derby final to finish a close-up fifth, beaten two lengths after a missed break. He’s one that could go deep in the competition at a price.

Lennies Desire is another that could attract support at 33’s (Skybet, Betfair & Paddy Power). The Paul Hennessy-trained flying machine broke the track record at Towcester in the Derby Plate heats, clocking 28.49. What a run from the December 22 son of Signet Ace.
