Arena Racing Company Puppy Trophy – Betting Update

The Arena Racing Company Puppy Trophy semi-finals take centre stage on Friday evening with twelve greyhounds lining up in a bid to book their place in next week’s £7,500 grand final.

For those looking to attend, general admission is from £8 with hospitality packages available on the Sunderland greyhound website

Fastest first round times – Slingshot Poppy (26.93) Greenwell Tyson (27.07) Sunnyside Jayden (27.13) Witton Williams (27.23) and Jacktavern Chief (27.31)

Fastest first round sectionals – Slingshot Poppy (4.85) Sunnyside Jayden (4.86) Bogger Darling (4.89) Witton Williams (4.92) Santas Amigo (4.94) and Zenith Impact (4.94)

Outright betting is available with the Pat Buckley-trained Irish raider Slingshot Poppy heading the market at a general 6/4. Santas Amigo from the Dave Mullins kennel is next in at 2/1 with Witton Williams at 8/1. For those looking at each way options, bookmakers are offering terms of ¼ the odds and first three in the final.

The first semi-final at 8.17 on Friday will see a clash between the two at the top of the Ante Post market with Slingshot Poppy in T4 and Santas Amigo in T5. In the first-round heats, Poppy recorded 26.93 following a 4.85 and Amigo went round in 27.60, finishing third behind Zenith Impact following crowding at the first and third bends. The week previous Amigo went round in 27.08 and showed huge back straight pace.

There's plenty of early pace in this race with Sunnyside Jayden (16/1 for outright honours) running from T2. The July 23 son of Coolavanny Hoffa is blessed with blistering early gears. Jayden will be looking to lead round, it’s then all about who turns second. Will it be Poppy or Amigo? This promises to be a cracker.

The second semi-final of the Arena Racing Company Puppy Trophy at 8.37 on Friday evening looks wide-open. Local runner Witton Williams impressed in the heats, winning in 27.23 and looks a major player from T5. The Kevin Hutton-trained wide seed Jacktavern Chief chased home Witton Williams last time out and could do so again and book his place in the final. Jacktavern Chief is 14/1 to claim outright honours. Of those drawn closer to the rails, Zenith Impact is an interesting runner from T1. The September 23 daughter of Droopys Flytline has only run seven times and is open to improvement. Back in early May Zenith Impact was running A7 grade around the London Road circuit Romford, she's taken a massive step forward since then. Zenith made a huge impact in the heats, making all in 27.42, she’s 25/1 to win the competition outright and that could tempt a few in.
