The GWA Greyhound Derby tipping challenge

I need to start this with a disclaimer.

I am writing this of my own free will and volition. There has been no pressure put upon me by a Mr Jonathan Hobbs to write this purely because he is in third place in the standings. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead is purely coincidental...

After the third round of the Derby there are just 11 competitors in profit. It has been a tough competition for the bookmakers so far with so many short-priced winners and difficult for this competition as well. For those of us who are off the pace, we are forced to try and find reasons to oppose the shorties as 4/9 winners are no help to us!

That's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it!

If this were a film it would be Groundhog Day with Ian Fortune leading the way again. The commentator extraordinaire has prior winning form in this competition and is going to prove very hard to topple once more this year. He is the 2/1 favourite to win in 2025 and rightly so.

A pair of Chelsea fans are chasing him and fresh off a win in the Europa Conference League, they will be full of confidence. Billy Brennan knows every grain of sand at Towcester and is the 3/1 second favourite.

Hobbsy is 9/2 in the market at present with a little over eight points to make up in the standings and with 30 or so races still to be tipped, that margin is well within reach.

Jonathan Kay and Jason Barresford are both former winners of the competition. They have also both been in front of the Gone To The Dogs - Live! cameras during the Derby and can be backed at 6/1 and 9/1 respectively.

This is the last chance for anyone wanting to have a bet on the outcome of the competition with the market closing at the quarter-final stage with no further price adjustments to come.

Star Sports are once more donating all profits from the market to retired greyhounds, split between Home Run Hounds and also the Greyhound Homing fundraising that is being done both at the track and on Just Giving

Have a bet, enjoy a bit of fun over the next three weeks and if you lose, you are supporting a wonderful cause so it's win-win!

A huge thank you to Star Sports and especially Dave Stewart for running this competition once more, for their generosity both in terms of the charity donations and their time.
