Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic both oversubscribed but packed with quality
The Ladbrokes Gold Cup and the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic both kick off at Monmore on Saturday night with a whole host of top quality greyhounds competing in both competitions, which were both oversubscribed.
The Mark Wallis pair of Proper Heiress and Mongys Wild, winners of the Coral Sussex Cup and the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency at Hove last weekend aren't involved in either competition this week, no doubt a relief to all the other connections, especially to those involved in the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic such has been the dominance of Mongys Wild over six bends this year.
Wallis though still looks to have outstanding claims in the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic as New Destiny makes a return to action having missed the Premier Greyhound Regency at Hove. She has been drawn against the Patrick Janssens trained Romeo Empire in Heat 4 at 7.22pm. Wallis is also represented by Bombay Nutty in Heat 5 at 7.39pm, who is up against Belinda Green's Teddie and Ted Soppitt's Sunnyside Broxi, while Vhagar lines up in Heat 6 at 7.56pm against Kevin Hutton's exciting six bend recruit Antigua Kestrel, and Jimmy Fenwick's Ballymac Lineout
Heat 3 at 7.06pm looks to be an intriguing contest with Belinda Green's Gary The Arb, Maxine Locke's Radical Scoby and Brian Fairbairn's Clona Ice up against Tom Heilbron's StarSports/TRC Derby semi finalist Droopys Bookem, who has found a tough looking heat to make his debut in.
The Ladbrokes Gold Cup looks to be a hugely competitive affair, the pick of those heats look to be Heat 3 at 8.47 as John Flaherty's recent Northern Flat winner Naochra lines up against Mike Burton's Droopys Aladdin, Garry Hamilton's recent 3 Steps to Victory finalist Carrick Fergie, the Mark Wallis trained Rackethall Brute, the once raced Slingshot Gazza for Brian Fairbairn and Angel of the North finalist Dominoh Hoo Hoo
Monmore Racing Manager Tony Williamson said: "The entries had to be whittled down as both competitions were oversubscribed, but the entry was strong for both competitions. The Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic received 50 entries, 32 rails, 10 middle and 8 wides, while the Ladbrokes Gold Cup had 46 entries, 32 rails, 8 middle and 6 wides. Unfortunately, there will be some disappointed connections due to the sheer volume of entries that we received"
"Two great competitions to look forward to with an abundance of canine talent competing again this year for the two category one titles and the honour of lifting the trophies for connections"
"Some great greyhounds just missed out, but the quality is there to see and apologies from Monmore to any that did not get accepted"
"Good luck to all throughout 2025s competitions."
The full form for both competitions can be found below, and the editorial team at Greyhound News UK will be producing a preview video of both competitions over the next couple of days
