Icemans Girl Sparkles in Angel of The North Trial Stakes

The Nathan Hunt-trained Icemans Girl recorded a flying 28.35 last night in the Angel of The North Trial Stakes Open Race at 7.27. The July 2022 daughter of Broadstrand Bono trapped well, grabbed the rails and hit the first bend with local runner Coolavanny Mercy challenging wide from T6. Out of the second bend, Iceman's Girl nipped up the inside of that rival and hit the front, and it was all over bar the shouting for those that backed the odds-on favourite.

Speaking to trainer Nathan Hunt this afternoon, he had this to say: “She’s come out of the race really well, she travels well, and we are happy with her. Bella (kennel name) trapped better than in her trial and she showed her class down the back straight and stayed on well. The draw is on Monday. She isn’t draw-dependent, but we would like to avoid trap one. Traps two and three would suit her better. She doesn’t need to lead. If she can turn handy it would be race on, and she should go well.’’

Speaking about Bang On Edith who also ran in another Angel of The North Trial Stakes Open Race Hunt said: “She’s still getting used to the track. Ideally, we would like trap two or three for her. She breaks better from there, as she showed in a trial around Newcastle a couple of weeks ago.’’

Bridefort Lady will also head to Newcastle for the Angel of The North and Hunt said this about the December 2022 daughter of Malachi: “She went round last night in a trial (28.90) and that was a 20 or 30 spot improvement from last time out. She will head back next week.’’

Untold Paanga was sent off as the 15/8 favourite for the Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat Trial Stakes Open Race at 7.44 but finished fifth following early trouble. Hunt said: “There are a couple of tracks that would have been ideal for Untold Paange but, unfortunately, they aren’t open anymore. There's nothing for him at Romford at the moment, so we will head to Newcastle for the Northern Flat. He’s a strong running sort over this trip so let’s see.’’

On Saturday evening, Nathan Hunt sends a strong team to Monmore, and he had this to say about his runners: “Whisky Elsa (T2, 6.51) ran well on debut but has disappointed twice since. She has a nice draw tomorrow and has a chance. Newinn Oscar (T3, 6.48) drops into A1 company, but this is a hot race. These are some of the best dogs at Monmore. Hove is the plan, a Trial Stakes race next week, then the Sussex Cup. Intriguing Iris (T3, 7.22) has had a couple of weeks off but moved well in a trial last week. She will head to the Regency at Hove in the coming weeks. On the bunny, she’s a class act and has one of the fastest times at Hove this year, but she’s not the bravest if she’s around dogs. This looks like a winnable race and she should go well. Teaboy Brownie (T6, 7.56) will head to Monmore for a change of scenery. If he gets it right at the boxes, he should go close. Droopys Highfive (T2, 9.23) won a sprint open at Hove but is inconsistent. He needs switching about to keep him interested.’’

On Sunday afternoon, Mad For Cash will head to Towcester for the JR Racing Juvenile. Running from T2 in heat three at 2.52 Nathan Hunt said: “She’s promising; She won at Hove and then had an issue with a cut web. She’s fine now. She went well in a sprint trial at Monmore and four-bend trial at Towcester in preparation for this. We will take third on Sunday. She will need a bit of luck but if she qualifies, she will come on nicely for the run.’’
