Greyhound Racing UK Greyhound of the Month - April 2025
The Greyhound Racing UK Greyhound of the Month for April has been announced

Aayamza Sydney is named Greyhound Racing UK Greyhound of the Month for April
The John Mullins-trained son of Droopys Sydney was awarded the Greyhound Racing UK Greyhound of the Month award for April having won the Arena Racing Company Laurels at Perry Barr, the last Category One competition to be held at the Birmingham track before their closure later on in the year.
Aayamza Sydney went unbeaten throughout the competition and notched another track record in the semi-finals when making all the running in 27.75 from the 480m course. He went close to breaking that again when winning in the final, picking up the Patrick Janssens-trained favourite Druids Say Go in 27.78.
That was Aayamza Sydney’s second Category One title of his career, having previously romped to success when landing the final of the Jay & Kay Coach Tours Gold Collar over 540m at Crayford, winning by just the 11 ¼ lengths in a track record time of 32.85.
With a lack of anymore Category One competitions at Perry Barr before their closure, Aayamza Sydney Is likely to have the honour of knowing that his two track records will never be beaten.
Having been entered in the StarSports/TRC Greyhound Derby, Aayamza Sydney was subsequently withdrawn prior to the first round due to an injury. Connections would have been hopeful of a good run through the Derby, and the bookmakers were of the same opinion, having been priced up at around 33/1 for outright success. Hopefully that injury isn’t too serious and he makes a return to the track sooner rather than later.
In winning the Greyhound Racing UK Greyhound of the Month award for April, Aayamza Sydney edged out other nominees Headford Asher (Maxine Locke), Hello Diego (Paul Hennessy), New Destiny (Mark Wallis), Proper Heiress (Mark Wallis) and Runaway Dior (Paul Donovan)
