April Greyhound of the Month gets awarded at Towcester
Connections of Aayamza Sydney belatedly got their award for their star winning the Greyhound Racing UK Greyhound of the Month.

Ayamzaboys Syndicate get April award
It took a while but the Ayamzaboys Syndicate finally got the presentation jacket for their Aayamza Sydney winning the Greyhound Racing UK Greyhound of the Month for April. It was his track record breaking win in the Arena Racing Company Laurels at Perry Barr that saw the flashy black and white son of Droopys Sydney claim the award.
Missing the Derby though an injury was a blow for the syndicate, especially with a dog who is a veteran come September. We had spoken to Lorraine Hyde-Banning of the syndicate ahead of Towcester who told us all about his life with the syndicate, all the way from the very beginning.
"We had his mum and she’s retired with one of our owners, he’s our pup, we randomly picked him out of the bunch. We were all sent videos of the litter and we all picked out the one that we liked. We all picked out the same dog which was incredible!"
It is easy to see why he caught the eye of the syndicate, a striking looker who has the talent to back that up. He is a nine-time Category One finalist for the John Mullins team who Hyde-Banning is quick to praise. "They genuinely care and they keep its touch with you all the time. They’ll send you pics, even just of the dogs laying in bed with captions saying Sydney says hi."
Aayamza Sydney is described as "a powerhouse, he's just so willing. He's more savvy than last year, he’s track craft has been so improved, he knows how to manage himself." Having missed Towcester, minds have turned to a possible tilt at Shelbourne though that is very much still in the lap of the gods.
"Nature will dictate as he was still feeling it last week but we have time so we will have to wait and see" is the latest update from the team ahead of the Boylesports Irish Derby which starts in late August.
"You can’t predict, just hope. You know what buttons you need to press with them, that they need to be left alone on their bed, that they need some extra TLC." Sydney is getting that TLC right now, hopefully he can make it to Shelbourne as he would add plenty of extra spice to a competition that already has the potential to be a classic.
