Carrick Fergie dominates for Hamilton

The final of the Nottingham Standard Trophy saw a hugely impressive run from Garry Hamilton's Carrick Fergie. He was turned over in the heats last week but that was only his second run since December so he was entitled to come on for it. With a slick 5.00 break in his locker he ran out a four-length scorer in 29.25, the second fastest of the year so far over the 500m distance and just 25 spots off the track record that March On Freddie set last year.

It was a trip well worthwhile for Hamilton who went home with a double on the night. Toddys Turbo produced a solid 28.76 over 480m to see off a field that contained Droopys Extragud and Leigh's Dream. He had already picked up open class wins at Newcastle, Sheffield and Star Pelaw since joining Hamilton from Tom Heilbron but this was arguably his most impressive given the calibre of opposition.

A sprint went the way of Rental Crisis for David Fradgley. He has won four of the six races that he has had since joining the kennel, including an open win at Sheffield as well. It was Mossrich Karen who chased him home who has been flying in the sprints at the track of late,

Dunelm Dragon got off the mark at the third time of asking for Ted Soppitt. He was knocked out of the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial in the second round heat that was won by the eventual winner Faypoint Ranger on his final start in Ireland after a 28.37 win in the opening round.

The other open on the card went to Butlers Lane for Barry Denby. She had picked up a win at the track last October and had won in graded company since in a pair of A2s.
