Doubles for Holloway and Rees in Thursday Night Opens

The only Open Race action on Thursday Night took place at Hove which saw the Sussex venue putting on nine Opens on their twelve-race card with both Ricky Holloway and Richard Rees (below) landing doubles.

Slick Sabo (5/4F) was the first winner for Holloway when he pinged the lids to make all the running over 500m in 29.23(+30) by 2 ¼ lengths, while the double arrived courtesy of Kates Bart (8/1), who again made all the running on his six bend debut over 695m, going clear in the early stages but despite tiring on the run for home, managed to hold off the staying on challengers by ½ a length in 42.44 (+30)

Amazing Zeus (8/15F) was well fancied when getting Rees off the mark, overcoming trouble at the second bend to hit the front round the last bend for a 2 ½ length victory in 29.41 (+30), with Avarua Flight (5/4) taking advantage of early crowding round the first bend to score by 1 ¼ lengths in a time of 29.35 (+20)

Other winners to score over the 500m distance were Derek Knight’s Tea For me (8/13F) in 29.77(+30), Carl Gardiner’s Teddy’s Sister (11/1) in 29.54 (+30) and Front Polo (5/1) for Kevin Proctor recording 29.19 (+30).

Belinda Green and June Harvey were responsible for the two remaining winners on the card. Guzzler (3/1) gave Green her victory when leading at the first bend to hold on narrowly at the finish by a short head in 16.34 (+10) for the 285m course, while Ower Cracker (4/5F) sent punters home with a smile in the finale over 515m, with Harvey’s runner running out a 5 length winner, making all the running in 29.82 (+20)
