Sunday open report - Young double at Towcester
Undergroundnicky (4/1) and Bowmers Wildcat (10/11) landed a double on the afternoon for Romford trainer Paul Young at Towcester.
Undergroundnicky was sent off at 4s on Towcester debut and ran a cracker to get up late on and deny Essjay Paul, who finished second with the winning time recorded as 29.52. Undergroundnicky is very lightly raced with only five competitive runs on her card. She looks a nice type for the kennel.
A little later on, recent JR Racing Juvenile Classic finalist Bowmers Wildcat was well-supported into 10/11f and there was never a moment's doubt for those that backed the August 2023 son of Dorotas Wildcat as he made all in 28.97. Tax Evader (T6) ran a solid race to finish second, beaten a length and a half by Wildcat.
Newinn Sharky (9/2) caused a shock in the Towcester Standard open race at 4.07, winning in 29.27 with three lengths back to odds-on favourite Tiffield Tarquin in second. Too Wright stayed on well for third a short head behind Tarquin.
The Towcester Stayers at 4.44 looked a straight-forward opportunity for Bank Of Granda from T6 after Doohoma Princess (T5) was taken out of the race lame. Bank Of Granda trapped well and managed to get across and lead round from T6. Once on the bunny it was all over bar the shouting for those that took the 4/11 on offer. The winning time was 43.00, with four and a half lengths back to second. Innfield Charm (T4) chased home the winner but could never land a blow.
Star Pelaw open report – Pippy breaks the sprint record
No Brakes was sent off as the 4/7 favourite in the Star Pelaw 590 Stayers Trophy at 7.04 and the May 2023 daughter of Ballymac Bolger bolted up winning by over five lengths in 36.38. Savana Aurora finished second with Onyago Kathy back in third.
At 7.24 Brynoffa Pippa (9/2) produced a flying 14.28 clock to break the track record and record a three-length victory in the Star Pelaw 245 Maiden Sprint open race. Savana Pink was sent off as the 8/13 favourite, but she could never land a blow on Pippy, who was very quick away and made all.
The Star Pelaw 435 Maiden Trophy at 7.42 did go to plan for favourite backers with Savana Spiderman (6/5f) leading late on to win by three quarters of a length in 26.09 with Lagile October in second. It was a closely contested finish with just half a length back to Nah The Keefill (T6) in third.
The Star Pelaw Sprint Trophy at 8.34 was won in impressive fashion by Space Captain from T4 in 14.48. Sent off at 7s, the June 2023 son of Ballyhimikin Jet soon led and once on the bunny he was not for catching. Ballinabola Eva (T1) finished second, beaten one and a half lengths with Mags Star (T3) back in third and a further half-length back.
