Boon on the money at Towcester
Kevin Boon recorded an open-race hat-trick at Towcester on Sunday afternoon.
The Norfolk-based trainer landed both divisions of the Towcester Maiden over 500m, starting with Toomuchchat, who got first run on Phoenix Charlie before pulling well clear of that rival to score in 29.21 (+10).
Boon quickly followed up when Farneys Wexford made all by an impressive10 lengths at 6/1 in the division one of the maiden, with the kennel three-timer completed by another big-priced winner in the shape of Skirk Joshua, who made all over 500m at 7/1.
There was a double for Patrick Janssens, who got off to a flyer when Romeo Ability justified 4/5 favouritism in division one of the Towcester Standard at the top of the card.
The son of Romeo Magico showed nice early speed to turn in front and kept on to score by two lengths from Aero Fish. Gun Slinger was the unlucky dog in the race as he was forced to check by the winner when challenging at the last bend.
Not So Slow (11/4) completed the double for Janssens when blasting out and making all with ease from odds-on favourite Broadway Murty in the only sprint open of the card.
Division two of the Towcester Standard went the way the betting suggested, as Laurence Tuffin’s Fabulous Livia (5-6fav) touched off 13/8 shot Jacktavern Pele for Heather Dimmock.
Dimmock went one better in the Towcester Ladies courtesy of Signet Morgan (4/1), which rounded off a hat-trick for the local handler who had earlier won graded events with Spiridon Zelus (A2) and Stassi (D4).
Savana Jackpot (4/1) stayed on past Breton Molly to claim the first installment of the Towcester Stayers over 712m in 42.59 (+20), while Doohoma Princess (11/10) clocked 43.13 when making all in the second division.
Crafty Prospero (8/13fav) took the Towcester Maiden Stayers with a power-packed performance.
Elegant looks the part at Sheffield
Sheffield’s afternoon card closed with three open contests and Very Elegant proved the market support for her to be well placed in the Owlerton Maiden Stayers over 660m.
The Sean Davy-trained bitch was first to show and never looked like getting caught, as she beat Stonepark Abba by two and three-quarter lengths in 39.61.
Acomb Johnny sprang a 6/1 surprise for Kevin Ferguson when dominating the sprint in 16.06, while the well-backed Distant Eve (4-9fav) had to do things the hard in the 500m maiden but Rose Draper’s charge got up late on to deny Brickwork Bill by three-quarters of a length in 29.50.
Hanna takes Star Pelaw final
The pick of the seven opens at Star Pelaw on the evening was the Star Sports Dual Distance final over 590m, which Killieford Hanna won well from the front.
Having made all in the heats over 435m, Roy Smith’s bitch quickly assumed command in the £500 decider and had two lengths in hand on Dairyhill Suzi at the line to score in 36.01.
Jason Ray made the long journey north a worthwhile one with a double, as his Savana Aurora (4/6fav) picking up a 590m success before Intrepidity (3/1) proved too strong in the marathon over 780m.
Two heats of the Star Sports 245/435 Dual Distance also featured and it was Tromora Goal (4/6fav) who set the standard with a pleasing 14.61, while Marlfield Fiona (6/4fav) took the other instalment in 14.80.
Stuart Tighe’s Beepers Cormac got the job done when sent off evens favourite for division of two Star Sports Standard, while David Curry’s Tromora Meg proved far too hot for her rivals in division one.
