Joe's Saturday Tips- PGR Regency, Coral Sussex Cup & BetGoodwin Pall Mall preview
The PGR Regency and Coral Sussex Cup get underway at Hove this evening as well as the semi-finals of the Betgoodwin Pall Mall at Oxford.
At Hove we kick off with the 6 heats of the Regency and in heat one I fancy Bombay Nutty to get the better of Breton Molly in what looks a bit of a match race on paper. He seems to have improved over the last few weeks and can get favourite backers off to a flying start in the first heat at 6.08pm.
It is extremely difficult to look past Romeo Empire in heat two at 6.26pm. He has been faultless since stepping up to six bends with four victories from four starts including three over this C&D so he should comfortably win heat two.
Ante post favourite and staying superstar Mongys Wild should return to competitive action with a bang in heat three at 6.42pm. He has been off the card since the start of June but has been giving a comfortable enough assignment on reappearance where he can get the better of St Leger finalist Tuono Bella to get his campaign off to a winning start.
Heat four at 6.59pm is arguably the most open of the six heats. Proper Dangeress is an interesting runner stepping up to six bends for the first time following a dominant display at Central Park over four bends last week. She could skip clear but i am going to take a chance on Swift Jarvis in a race that could suit the strong staying types like Swift Jarvis and Alright Gordy.
Heat five also sees Vhagar return to racing at 7.16pm where she should not make any mistakes. The shorter run to the bend could be a slight hinderance if she were to miss the beak but she has the four bend speed to hit the front by the third bend where she can pull away before holding on it tying up.
The final heat at 7.33pm sees the George Curtis & Ballyregan Bob Memorial winner Garfiney Blaze return to a happy hunting ground after his shock defeat at Sheffield last time out. He has since posted an impressive 41.75 over C&D in a trial and he can catch the early pacesetter Burrows Eclipse who should take the field along for the majority of the race
Heat one of the Coral Sussex Cup at 7.49pm sees Ballymac Kobe in trap six looking to continue where he left off last week by leading and making all. He has a brilliant draw with five railers inside him so he should take advantage of that with Kilmore Dancer and Derby semi-finalist No Better Feeling chasing him home.
Heat two at 8.07pm sees the return of King Memphis in trap two following a lay-off. He needs to avoid Bower Gift on his inside who will move off from trap one with Kevins Rocket moving in from three and with only a handful of sprints trials in recent weeks, I am going to be with Uncle Freddie in trap six who has a plum draw out wide. Five railers inside and a dog who stays this trip well could see him go close at a big price if things don’t to go plan for King Memphis.
At 8.24pm Romeo Tomcat should not make any mistakes in heat three. He has taken to this track and trip extremely well following on from his Derby Plate Success where a good break and clear run to the first bend can see him assert from the second to third bend to put the race to bed with the strong running Gary The Arb and well drawn Queen Shakira chasing him home.
Heat four at 8.41pm sees Slick Sentinel line up an expected short price favourite where he should duly oblige from trap six. He won in devastating fashion in a trial stakes seven days ago by over eight lengths so a level break here sees him lead and make all.
Heat five looks a bit of a match on paper between Chelms Bear and defending champion Newinn Benni. I am going to be with the latter to lead and win. A level break should see him go round in front where Chelms Bear is not guaranteed a clear run to the first bend and more than likely going to turn closer to last than first and that can set the race up for Newinn Benni to go far enough clear before Chelms Bear hits top gear which could be too late to reel in the leader.
The final heat at 9.16pm sees ante post favourite Proper Heiress also return to racing following a disappointing derby campaign that saw him exit the competing at the second round stage. All seems well with two blistering sprint trials at Towcester followed by a rapid 29.74 trial over this C&D so as long as he comes away running, the Coral Olympic winner can show why he is the 9/4 favourite for this competition.
At Oxford semi-final one of the Betgoodwin Pall Mall at 8.09pm can see Salacres Senan confirm the form with Rioja Oisin. He is going from strength to strength Salacres Senan and even if Rioja Oisin was to be in front of him at any stage, I would fancy Peter Harndens charge to back run that rival.
Semi-final two at 8.26pm could be similar to the first with Union Rebel confirming the form with Ballinakill Liam but this time I am with Antigua Kestrel to chase home the Golden Sprint winner. He is draw well on the inside in trap one but could get going too late to reel in Union Rebel who can claim a one-two in the second semi final.
The third semi-final at 8.43pm can see Crossfield Enzo come on for last weeks second place finish behind Antigua Kestrel by leading and making all in an ultra competitive affair. He was impressive behind a good winner last week when desperately needing the run so any improvement can see him claim gold with Coppice Ella chasing him home in second.
