Irish Performance of the Week

It was the second round of the Kilkenny Champion Open Unraced last week where a pair of the heats were won in identical times by Montana Shadow and Unanimous Leo who share the award. The former is with John Linehan and is part of Droopys Flytline's first litter to hit the track. He is from the latest litter out of Droopys Meteor who threw Droopys Pivotel and Extragud in her litter prior. The latter is a half-brother to the Limerick 600y track record holder Ower Cracker.

It was slightly surprising not to see Epic Ace at Towcester for a tilt at the Derby. He stayed at home and produced the fastest time of 2025 so far over 350y at Shelbourne. He burst onto the scene over the same track and trip last September before adding another five wins before he tasted his first defeat.

There is the first 2024 whelp on the list this week. Double On It made an eye-catching debut at Youghal, clocking the fourth fastest time of 2025 in the process. A half-sister to Gun Slinger, her dam is a half-sister to Coolavanny Shado so there is plenty of speed in the pedigree, she looks the type to keep an eye on.

Canya Steve won the Newbridge award last week and went a couple of lengths quicker to double up. He hit a golden patch about this time last year as well before losing his form. Hopefully for his connections, he can keep building on his smart recent efforts.

Tralee also saw two dogs sharing the award this week with In Good Time and End Of Summer both producing a 28.18, the third fastest of the year so far over 525y. The latter was sent off as the 1/4 favourite on his race debut which makes him another who is going to worth keeping an eye on for bigger targets ahead.
