Greyhoundtrader.com Stakes Final

We look ahead to the Greyhoundtrader.com Stakes final at Towcester

Best prices – Gary The Arb 6/4, Radical Scoby 7/2, Zenith Quincy 7/2, Ginger Rubin 11/1, Beatties Razl 14/1, Ballymac Odin 16/1.

The Greyhoundtrader.com Stakes final takes place on Saturday evening at 7.46 with the winner taking home the £4000 prize.

The first-round heats for the competition took place on Saturday 31st May with the semi-finals taking place last Saturday at Towcester.

The first semi-final last week at 6.51 was a closely contested affair with Ballymac Odin getting the verdict by a short head with Gingers Rubin second and Zenith Quincy in third with the winner recording 29.31. Following a moderate break, Odin paced up well into the corner and challenged Gingers Rubin who popped out from T2. Odin drove the bend and hit the front. As they hit the back straight the gap was now two lengths with a further three lengths to Zenith Quincy. Off the final bend, Rubin and Quincy closed the gap, and they were within striking distance and a blockbuster finish was on the cards. Rubin checked off and challenged wide and that surely cost him the race as he went down by the shortest of short heads. Lightly raced Zenith Quincy was a length behind the front pair and caught the eye in defeat.

The second heat was all over bar the shouting at lid rise as strong stayer Gary The Arb pinged from T2 and railed inside Beatties Razl (T4) who challenged into the first corner. Gary The Arb hit the back straight a couple clear and kicked for home. The winning distance was just over five lengths in 29.07, an impressive run from the July 22 son of Dorotas Wildcat. Radical Scoby ran a cracker to qualify; he looked in trouble at the third bend but drove the bend well and then chased down the winner and grabbed second late on with Beatties Razl back in third.

The final is all about the break. Six railers line up looking to land the £4000 prize money.  If Gary The Arb (T2) brings his trapping boots it could be all over at the boxes, if he misses the break this is wide-open.

Beatties Razl (T1) could take them along in the early stages, but the Monmore raider will be vulnerable late on.

Radical Scoby (T3) from the Maxine Locke kennel will be staying on well. Granted a clear run, he will go close. Scoby has six-bend form behind the likes of superstar Mongys Wild and Bombay Nutty from the Mark Wallis kennel.

Gingers Rubin (T4) from the Patrick Browne Hove kennel is an interesting runner at a price. If he reproduces the 4.10 sectional from the heats he could lead round, then it's race on at 11/1.

Zenith Quincy (T5) could attract support at the current prices. The Richard Rees-trained January 23 son of Malachi is very lightly raced and is open to improvement. In the first-round heats of this competition, Quincy trapped well and led off the second bend and went onto clock 28.92. A repeat of that run would put him in the mix here.

Monmore raider Ballymac Odin is drawn wider than normal out in T6 but with a smash break he could surprise at huge odds. In the first round, Odin held on from a fast-finishing Gary The Arb in 29.44 and the semi-final was a similar story with a narrow victory in 29.31. The 16/1 on offer could tempt a few in.

Good luck to all owners, connections and trainers with runners in the £4000 final of the Greyhoundtrader.com Stakes at Towcester on Saturday evening.
