Hall confirms Droopys Job retirement

Droopys Job will not race again following his exit from the Star Sports/TRC English Greyhound Derby at Towcester on Friday.

After outrunning his odds of 16/1 to finish third behind Val Tashadelek in the first round, Rob Hall’s dog encountered trouble early doors in the second round and pulled himself up down the back straight in a heat won by Faypoint Susie.

It didn’t look promising on the night and Hall confirmed his dog won’t race again,

“It’s ligament damage and, unfortunately, we’ll have to retire him,” Hall said.

“Polly (the Towcester vet) said it might be a dislocation, but the x-ray will tell you more and if there was any bone damage. Obviously, she put it back in and when I took him to the vet on Saturday morning, he x-rayed it and couldn’t see any bone damage. However, he confirmed it was ligament damage, which can be worse than a break sometimes.”

Hall is understandably disappointed but was quick to praise Droopys Job and his ability on the track.

The trainer added: “It’s a shame because he is a fast dog and won a few opens for us. He won a Star Sports Derby Trial Stakes at Towcester in 29.10 last month and has plenty of pace.”
